Miami Beach Seeks the Attention of Hollywood

famousinVegas

What do films and television shows like Moonlight and Miami Vice have in common? They both have done admirable jobs of putting Miami Beach in the spotlight while highlighting some of its unique qualities. The state Legislature isn’t planning on reintroducing economic perks to draw the attention of the film industry, but Miami Beach commissioners still want to make it easier for productions to shoot their projects on the barrier island.

To ease the experience for productions, the city plans to roll out several ordinances that will make it easier to obtain permits while also focusing on easing parking restrictions. For example, motorhomes would be allowed to park at metered spots and taxi stands while crew members would be able to park in municipal garages during off-peak hours. Obtaining approval to film in residential neighborhoods would also be made much easier.

Current laws require producers to obtain a signed consent from all property owners within a 500-foot radius of a production’s location if it’s being filmed in a residential neighborhood. If the ordinances are successful, there is a possibility that number may go down to 200 feet. The ordinances may also reduce the number of property owners required to give consent. Currently, 100 percent of property owners must agree to a lane closure, but that may be reduced to 75 percent.

Visiting Miami is an exciting experience, thanks in part to its vibrantly rich Latin culture. With so many different nationalities calling it home, the Magic City proliferates with eateries and hotspots that will allow you to get a taste of what the inimitable Latin nightlife is like.

In North Miami Beach, Lique Miami recently introduced a fun “Noche Latina” held once a week. The party features cocktails, a DJ spinning various tunes in Latin musical genres like merengue, and much more. You’ll find Lique Miami at 3957 Northeast 163rd Street, near Sunny Isles Beach.

Speaking of Miami Beach, if you haven’t been to Mango’s Tropical Cafe you’re missing out on an incredible experience. This Ocean Drive mainstay is something of a legend among locals and is well-known for its live music, dancers, and an anything goes attitude. Whether you’re looking to people watch or have an exhilarating good time, definitely visit this South Beach hotspot.

You’ll find Ball & Chain in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, on Calle Ocho to be precise. This longtime hotspot has been around for decades and is known for its fantastic food, cocktails, and retro fun. Dance, drink, you’re sure to have a great time.

December Brunch in Miami

brunchmiami-copy

Are you in the mood for some brunch during the holidays? Miami is packed with so many great places to try brunch, you may be feeling overwhelmed. We have a couple of suggestions to help you at least get started.

Who says you can’t have pizza for breakfast? Paulie Gee’s on Biscayne Bouelvard does in fact offer pizza for its brunch menu, including a three-cheese omelette pizza, cream cheese topped pizza, and more. All of these pizzas can be accompanied by a nice, tasty glass of mimosa. Paulie Gee’s brunch is served from noon to 3:30 pm on Sundays.

Just south of Paulie Gee’s also on Biscayne Boulevard is Ms. Cheezious. The eatery has a new “Bennys and Bellinis” brunch menu available between 11am to 2pm which includes Cuban toast with frita benedict or Maine lobster and your choice of bellini.

STK in downtown Miami recently introduced a brunch menu featuring various a la carte items, including steak! For an extra fee, you’ll also be able to sip on bottomless mimosas and other great drinks like Belvedere Bloody Mary’s.

Brunch is coming back to Zest with a pair of options to choose from. You can opt for a four course menu for $45 a person or pick and choose what you like such as huevos rancheros and stuffed French toast.. Zest’s brunch menu is available every Sunday from 11: 30 am ‘til 3 pm.

Art Basel’s Many Satellite Fairs

artbasel

Anyone who has lived in South Florida for some time is probably familiar with Art Basel. The annually held international art fair is among the most popular events held in Miami Beach and it draws hundreds, if not thousands of people to the Miami Beach Convention Center. Film, sculpture, photography, paintings, virtually any kind of art you can think of will be on display.

Although the primary show takes place at the convention center, there are smaller satellite fairs and events going on nearby. For example, the Parisian Hotel on Collins Avenue will be kicking off a Satellite fair on December 1st, just before the official start of Art Basel. The fair will include performances, music, technology, and much more.

The Faena Hotel will play host to “Collective Reality” a virtual reality experience being held on the beach beginning on Wednesday, November 30th. Artists such as Rachel Rossin and Jacolby Satterwhite will be showcasing their work and there will also be a special musical guest making an appearance. The event is invite only and an RSVP is required.

The X Contemporary fair is happening over at the Nobu/Eden Roc Hotel beginning on November 30th and ending on a high note with a huge party on December 4th. More than thirty galleries from around the world will be making an appearance.
